Sophie 546 dress by Maku. An impressive dress with plenty of gathers and patterns. Made with traditional jamdani weave and inspired by the clouds used in Tibetan religious paintings. This dress has a raised frilled collar with a laced back slit and gathers on the sides and back. The sleeves and hem are made with selvedge fabric. It has two side pockets and two spare buttons. Maku is a conceptual fashion brand founded by director Santanu Das. At Maku the textile takes the front seat, so that garments are exclusively designed from the fiber to the rack using only hand spun and hand woven textile (handloom). The dominance of indigo is historic and deliberate. Maku uses Its status symbol and its negative history in Bengal, the brand’s home state, to create one of a kind garments that explore the dye’s richness and versatility. Deliberately incorporating perceived imperfection in its design detail through the use of reverse buttons, prints, etc, the brand demands to be evaluated in the context of the tsunami of globalization of recent times.
